Most people from immigrant communities are worried about accessing disability services due to the issue with those services and supports being considered a public charge which could impact their potential at acquiring U.S. green cards/citizenship. On December 23rd, 2022 the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will not consider health, food, and housing services to be a public charge. Also, Services utilized by a child or family member with a disability will no longer affect the Green card or citizenship status of the main applicant.
